Equality Act: Campaigning to Restore Our Rights

On 16th April, the UK Supreme Court ruled that the terms “sex”, “man” and “woman” in the Equality Act refer to “biological sex” only, and do not extend to trans people with Gender Recognition Certificates (GRCs).

Since then, we’ve seen increased efforts to restrict the rights of trans people in Britain. The EHRC has sought to advance an interpretation of the law that would bar trans people from accessing virtually all gendered spaces and services aligned with their gender. Their draft Code of Practice is set to come into force on 9 July without any debate or scrutiny from Parliament – the time for action to resist the Code is now.

We will keep fighting until all trans people in the UK are able to live safely, in dignity and with access to appropriate healthcare.
