TransActual welcomes the High Court decision today to reject an attempt to stop the PATHWAYS puberty blocker trial from moving ahead.
This trial remains the only legal route for young people to access transition-related care in the UK, and it would have been unacceptable to further delay the trial while trans youth are left without access to the transition-related care that they deserve.
Yet regardless of today’s judgement, the broader damaging restrictions on accessing gender-affirming care still remain in place despite the acknowledged risk of harm to trans young people’s mental health. The politicisation of trans people’s healthcare in the NHS has created barriers to fairly and equally accessing care – barriers which must be torn down.
So while gender critical activists play politics with people’s health, organisations like TransActual will continue to campaign for a healthcare system that truly recognises and respects the individual needs of everyone.
