TransActual condemn recent comments by Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting MP, about trans people on hospital wards.
In a letter sent to him today, TransActual have reminded Wes that anyone staying on a hospital ward should be treated with dignity and have their healthcare needs met. His proposals are unworkable, discriminatory, a violation of human rights, and would almost certainly cause harm.
Existing rhetoric around trans people in hospital wards has already caused harm.
Wes has himself stated that policy decisions should be evidence based, but there is no evidence to suggest that it is necessary to change the existing policy on the accommodation of trans people in hospital wards. There are plenty of well documented issues that the Secretary of State could be focussing on instead.
