Write to the PM

We want you to write to the Prime Minister. Tell him about how the Supreme Court Ruling on the Equality Act has impacted you, as well as everything else that’s going on for trans people at the moment.

We heard last week that the anti-trans lot write to Sir Keir very regularly, some write at least once a week. And that’s all he’s hearing.

The anti-trans lot think they’re doing well if they get a couple of hundred out on the streets. They really think they are speaking for the people. Last weekend, we saw tens of thousands across the country take a break from their Easter weekend to say, no, not in our name.

So we need you to show Sir Keir that he’s got the numbers wrong.

Please, write to him today, then put a note in your diary to write to him again next week, and the next, and the next.

Let us know that you’ve written to him.

Some quick advice:

  • Using the contact form – https://contact.no10.gov.uk/ – you are limited to 1,000 characters. On that screen, just click “Go” and it takes you to a screen where you can type your message. You can email him on keir.starmer.mp@parliament.uk – but that’s really for his constituents, so it might not get through. However, if that inbox gets thousands of emails then his constituency staff, and probably Parliament’s IT staff, will notice.
  • Please mark it “for the personal attention of the Prime Minister”.
  • Be polite. We know you probably don’t feel it, but honestly, sending abuse or insults will be counter-productive.
  • Keep your facts straight. Don’t exaggerate when it comes to the facts.
  • You can write about how all this makes you feel – scared, vulnerable, angry, furious, despair, never voting Labour again, all that kind of stuff. But, again, keep it polite.
  • There are certain specifics you might want to ask:
    • what’s the point of getting a GRC now?
    • how are you going to ensure my safety/my dignity/my privacy?
    • why weren’t trans people heard in the court?
    • how are you going to police single-sex spaces?
    • why are these mythical “third spaces” supposed to be safe for trans people?
    • why should I as a trans man/woman be forced to pee with trans women/men?
    • as a trans man, where exactly am I supposed to pee now?
  • Letters can be long – but try not to make them too long – or short. “Dear Sir Keir, I am a trans person, and today I cried again over what you and your government are doing to trans people. Yours …” is a perfectly valid letter.

We’ve written to him ourselves, and asked a number of specific questions which you might also want to pick up on. Read our letter.

So write. And ask your family, friends, colleagues, and pets to write too. And keep on writing. Let the PM know that he’s getting this very, very badly wrong.

And if you want to write to the equalities ministers, bridget.phillipson.mp@parliament.uknia.griffith.mp@parliament.uk, and your MP, please do that as well.
